AMAZON R.A.C.E. The objective of the Amazon R.A.C.E. project is to take the gospel to the river people of the Amazon Basin of Brazil and start churches in the river villages. R.A.C.E. stands for Radical Approach to Church planting and Evangelism. Participants are part of the IMB Journeyman and International Service Corp (ISC) programs along with Brazilian nationals. Training will be for 3 months on the Amazon River to prepare teams to share the gospel and plant churches in the villages along the Amazon River water system. They will also learn how to drive a canoe, survive (survival course), fish, story the bible, missiology, church planting, etc. After their 3 months of training, using the Luke 10 model, teams will be sent out 2 by 2 (one American/one Brazilian) to priority river villages anywhere from 3 – 10 days by boat. Teams will find a family of peace with in the village and work with that family. They will do whatever that family does to survive which is usually fish. They will "pull their own weight within the family and village." This will help build credibility within the family and community. While living with the family, they will begin storying with the family, and the prayer is that the family will come to Christ and then begina simple church in the village. The next step will be discipleship and taking the new Christians to neighboring villages to do the same thing there – Bible Stories, Discipleship, new church started and then sharing with other villages. Teams will live in the villages for 3-4 months at a time during their 2 year term.
