Prayer Requests

With Heavy Hearts
July 17th, 2008   -   Our Missionaries

With heavy hearts we share that our dear friend and missionary colleague, Elaine Lambach, serving in Belém, Brazil, died July 14th after a brief illness.  Please be in prayer for her husband, Paul, as he deals will all the emotion and the many details this all involves with the sudden loss of his wife. Please pray for each of their 5 children – sons Joseph (serving in the military), Jonathan (at Union University in TN), David, ( graduated from high school this year), and two young daughters, Rachel (age 12) and Hannah (age 9). Pray for God's peace and grace to permeate the lives of this family during this difficult and unexpected time. Also, please continue to pray for her extended family in the states, her mission family and friends here in Brazil.

Pray for Ministry in Brigadeiro
July 17th, 2008   -   Evangelism and Church Planting

The new churches  in the urban poor neighborhood, Brigadeiro, Aricely and Operário, located in Boa Vista, Roraima are doing well but are in need of leadership. Pray for new converts and for those already saved to be discipled and become mature in their faith. Two of the new churches are doing well but we still are not seeing many leaders raised up to help with the ministry of the church and to start new works. We are having to start over with one of the churches.  Please pray for these churches, that those who have accepted Jesus will begin to grow spiritually and that leaders will be raised up. Pray for the family of Ana and Paulo and their family and friends as they participate in Bible Studies, so that we will see a new church in their home.

Pray that the physical needs be met that are lacking in this neighborhood: running water, sewer, trash pick up, electricity, schools and medical help.

Pray for the leaders of these home churches, Pastor Gama and Michael, Ataide e Dora.
Update: PRAISES:
We have been working with the Bible Study group at Ana and Paulo's house for almost 2 years and the ministry as been up and down with many participating and then with only a few. We have been praying for God's leadership and also asking for prayer interceding for the couple who are offering their home, that Paulo come to know Jesus and that Ana stay firm in her faith. At our last Bible Study we had a good group with children and adults and feel very encouraged that we continue the work there.

We are planning to have a baptism soon for new Christians at our churches and Study groups. We were with the churches July 12 and 13 and both are talking about baptism. One church had 11 people show a desire to be baptized and the other 15 people. Lift them up to the Lord during this time that they will be strong in their testimony and be able to withstand Satan's attacks.

Volunteer Team Evangelizing in River Villages
July 14th, 2008   -   Evangelism and Church Planting

A team of 20 people with World Wide Church Planters worked with a team of Brazilians to reach river communities on the Amazon River. Praise the Lord for their safety as they went out on john boats to villages with little or no gospel presence. Pray for the ribeirinhos (river people) who heard the gospel, that they will understand the message and receive Jesus as their savior. Pray that they will be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and that there will be someone to share more of the scriptures to them and help them as they grow in their failth.

Update:

Pray for Francisca Netiana (pictured above with her family) who is a new Christian and was married during a visit by the evangeism team. She has called since then and shared that "things are different now, that she is transformed and happy".  Her husband had previously made a pact with Satan but accepted Christ also during the team's visit. He doesn't read but his wife is reading the Bible to him.  Ask the Lord to be with this couple and with all those who received him and that they will grow and be transformed. Pray that there will soon be someone else to visit with them and help them in the spiritutal growth.

Clyde and Carol Schulz Request Prayer
July 14th, 2008   -   Evangelism and Church Planting

Just outside of the city of Belém, is the town of Marituba (MAH-dee-TOO-buh).  In January 2008, Brother Fernando, a Christian for five years, sensed God telling him to be more involved in God's work in his neighborhood.  God had been also speaking to the pastor of his church, on the other side of town, about starting evangelistic Bible studies in that neighborhood.  Together, they began the studies and within a month about 12 people had received Christ as Savior and Lord.  Gerson and Helen, a couple with three young daughters, were the first to come to Christ and their relatives and friends began to see the difference Christ was making in their family.  As a result, others have come to the Lord and joined in the study.  The most recent convert was an older lady, Lourdes, who has been involved in macumba (mah-COOM-bah) a type of black magic. Please intercede for Lourdes, Gerson, Helen and Fernando and other new converts that they may be strong in the Lord and the strength of his might and win others in the neighborhood to Christ.

Pray for a Church Planting Movement in Acre and Rondônia
July 14th, 2008   -   Evangelism and Church Planting

Join us as we pray for a church planting movement among the Western Amazon Rural People of Acre and Rondônia. Pray for a movement that will be healthy churches planting healthy churches that plant . . . you get the idea! The vision is to have a healthy body of believers in every community in the interior of these two states.

Pray for every person to have access to hear and see the gospel of Jesus Christ, an opportunity to accept Him, and a connection to a local body of believers. Pray that they in turn will grow in the faith and perpetuate the cycle of church planting, fulfilling the Great Commission.

Pray churches will connect by whatever means necessary to team together and mobilize other churches to pray, contribute, and physically participate in the continuance of the wave to the ends of the earth.

Andy and Cindy Kennedy Ask for Prayer
July 14th, 2008   -   Evangelism and Church Planting

Andy and Cindy Kennedy ask "that God will guide and protect the leaders in Brazil and His will would be accomplished while they are in a long distance relationship with the team while on Stateside Assignment.  Pray for their partners, that they will continue to move toward a focus on multiplying. Pray for the brand new works in Afuá and Muaná and for their lay pastors."

Andy is in the process of looking into replacing the current mission plane. Please pray for wisdom and God's timing.

Update:

God has provided every need so far as we work to build the new airplane, and we are confident that He will continue to do so, but we covet your prayers.

Pray for the airplane project to continue to go well so that I can finish soon and get back to the PhD work. The airplane project is physically exhausting (squeezing, pounding, or bucking tens of thousands of rivets) and pretty mentally challenging as well (reading blueprint type instructions, figuring out the details and actually making it happen).  I have a great help with our professional builder assistant and he has two planes (one finished and one a few weeks ahead of ours) in his hangar that I can look at as models for how to do ours.  He is by my side within minutes when I have a question or problem.

Pray that God will bring us a volunteer with skills in avionics and aircraft electrical systems.  We can do this ourselves but the learning curve will be steep and we will have to proceed slowly to do it right.  We also need someone with painting and fiberglass experience to help us install and blend in the upper fuselage, doors, and plexiglass windows and to final paint the interior and exterior.
